Setting the Stage for a Healing Journey

Clinical empathy training through theatre techniques

“But as in all areas of medicine, we still try our best for the patient,

‘to cure, sometimes; to relieve, often; to comfort, always.

…The most important trait a doctor needs is empathy.

If we can feel our patient’s pain and suffering, we would certainly do our best

by our patients and their welfare would override everything else.”

- Dr. Lee Wei Ling, The Straits Times, 7 Dec 2008

Director of the National Neuroscience Institute

With the recent focus on the need for empathy in medical professionals, leaders in the healthcare industry have begun looking for new and improved ways to shape a better healing experience for patients through creating a positive treatment environment that nurtures empathy, sensitivity and awareness amongst medical professionals.

Setting The Stage For A Healing Journey can be customised for medical professional groups. We first conducted our specially designed pilot programme for the medical professionals of The Oncology Centre of Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre.

Setting The Stage For A Healing Journey seeks to:

  1. Improve the participants’ ability to communicate and engage with their patients, and to improve their level of empathy and sensitivity to the people and relationships around them.
  2. Equip participants with the understanding and skills to create a positive and conducive healing environment for both their patients and co-workers.

Participants who go through this course will learn to treat their work setting as a “stage” and optimize their roles as the “performers”, thus enabling them to create a more positive journey for their patients and for themselves.

We strongly recommend for senior and junior co-workers to participate in the same programme – this will encourage them to re-discover their relationships and examine any existing assumptions about each other, thereby allowing them to create a new team dynamic.

The course can be conducted in both English and Mandarin.

Setting the Stage for Change

Training mature and older workers for the service industry:

changing mindsets through soft skills training

An Aging Population & its problems

Singapore is now facing a rapidly aging population, where one in every five residents will be a senior by the year 2030. There is a growing emphasis on creating strategies that will make aging and its accompanying life and work changes a positive experience, both at the individual and organizational levels.

Mature workers face numerous challenges in the workplace – these include the challenge of structured training focused on past performance, as well as the more critical hurdle of continuing to stay relevant in the changing work environment.

With these issues in mind, many organizations have begun looking for new and improved ways to cultivate confidence and self-expression amongst their aging staff, and to help them manage the changes in their life and their work environment.

Setting the Stage for Change – Training mature and older workers for the service industry: changing mindsets through soft skills training.

Our course aims to facilitate older workers’ ability to manage changes through a different type of training programme that focuses on the process and development of soft skills.

The touchstone of this programme is to build the self-awareness and confidence of the participants in their ability to learn and adapt to new situations. It will improve their ability to manage new challenges in life, and to heighten their level of understanding and sensitivity to all around them. This course is a vital platform which provides participants with the necessary soft skills that allows them to better handle other technical-based work improvement courses.

Participants who go through this course will surprised how much easier it is for them to receive new information and manage challenges in the workplace.

The course can be conducted in both English and Mandarin.
