Just write! Just rehearse! Just perform! Just watch!

Faced with a dearth of original pieces being written in Mandarin theatre, The Theatre Practice’s Poor Theatre Series will relive the challenging and adrenaline-filled Playwrights’ Boot Camp again this year! The Playwrights’ Boot Camp, which held its inaugural run in 2010, provides a platform that gives aspiring writers a chance to sharpen their skills, take some risks, and hopefully emerge, after the training and practice, with inspiration for the future. Throughout the 4 weeks of Boot Camp, the guiding principle is that of “play”. Playwrights will pen scripts based on a given topic and have a week to hand in their “assignments”. Thereafter, within 1 day itself, 3 directors will read through the scripts, pick from a pool of actors, rehearse for 6 hours, and perform, under the intense scrutiny of a live audience that same evening. The very next week, the whole process starts all over again! Within the imposed limits of time and resource, we hope that these ‘Boot Campers’ will find a way to stretch their creativity beyond their own boundaries!
